I visited the Grand Canyon a couple of years ago while on vacation in the USA.
We camped at the Grand Canyon for a couple of days giving us to time to really explore this vast wonder. It is absolutely breathtaking. Until you stand at the edge, you really don’t have any idea just how truly large this place is.
I flew on top of the Grand Canyon in a small propeller plane from the Grand Canyon South Rim airport. The plane held about 19 people and was rather tight. We sat 3 people across! I recommend this as it gives you a completely different perspective of the canyon. From the air you can see just how different each wall of the canyon is. The flight allows you to escape the crowds of the tourists down below. From the air you could see how the sun affects the colors of the rocks; which look amazing against the dazzling blue-ish green of the Colorado River. To truly appreciate the Canyon in its entire splendor, visit the Grand Canyon at different times such as sunrise and sunset. (more…)

We first visited the Grand Canyon some 8 years ago, but recently went back with some pals who had no idea what to expect. we drove to the first lookout and guided them, eyes closed, right up to the edge. the look in their eyes when they saw it spoke loudly – which was good, because they didn’t say anything for a while.
That’s the thing with the Grand Canyon: it’s just really, really big! It’s Big on a scale that we can’t imagine from natural features in Britain. I can’t describe it, and photos won’t do it justice. It’s just one of those few things that everyone has to see at some time in their life.
Cut by the Colorado River through the high desert of Arizona, thousands of meters deep and over two hundred miles long, the Grand Canyon National Park covers the length of the canyon and much of the land to either side. Most of the facilities are based on the south rim, which is more accessible. (more…)
